User Settings
Personalize your Memnook experience with user preferences like timezone settings. Configure how the app works for your location and daily routine.
What Are User Settings?
User Settings let you customize how Memnook works for you personally. These are different from study-specific settings - they're about making the app fit your location, time zone, and personal preferences.
Currently, you can set your timezone, with more personalization options coming soon!
Setting Your Timezone
Why Timezone Matters
Your timezone determines when your "day" starts and ends for features like:
- Daily Study Goals: When your progress resets each day
- Email Reminders: When you receive daily notifications
- Study Streaks: How your consecutive study days are calculated
How to Set Your Timezone
- Open Settings: Click the settings icon (⚙️) in the top right
- Find User Preferences: Look for the "User Preferences" section
- Select Timezone: Choose your timezone from the dropdown menu
- Save Changes: Click "Save User Preferences" to apply

Automatic Detection
Smart Setup: When you first use Memnook, it automatically detects your browser's timezone and sets it for you. You can always change this later if needed.
Traveling?: Update your timezone when you travel to keep your study tracking accurate.
How Timezone Affects Your Experience
Daily Study Goals
- Your progress resets at midnight in your timezone
- This means your "study day" matches your actual day
- No more confusion about when your goal resets!
Email Reminders
- Daily reminder emails are sent at 8 PM Central Time
- But your goal completion is based on your timezone
- So if you're in Pacific Time, you have until 3 AM Eastern (midnight Pacific) to complete your goal
Study Tracking
- All your study sessions are recorded with timezone-aware timestamps
- Your study history will always show the correct dates for your location
- Streaks and patterns are calculated based on your local time
Future User Preferences
We're planning to add more personalization options, such as:
- Email Frequency: Choose how often you want reminders
- Study Preferences: Default session lengths and break times
- Display Options: Theme preferences and layout choices
- Notification Settings: Fine-tune when and how you're notified
Tips for Timezone Settings
When to Update:
- Moving to a new timezone permanently
- Extended travel (more than a week)
- If your goal resets at the wrong time of day
When NOT to Update:
- Short trips or vacations
- Business travel for a few days
- If your current setting works well for your routine
Best Practice: Keep your timezone set to where you do most of your studying, even when traveling briefly.
